3 Business Lessons from a Photographer-Director

Walid's client list includes celebrities who entrust their projects to him. Below are 3 business lessons I took away from an interview with him.

Lesson 1 Treat People with Dignity
Walid was nominated for a Soul Train award for directing Tamar Braxton's Love and War music video. He told me he refused to portray her in the rude and snarly approach that is often seen on reality TV and instead sought to capture the complexity found in all relationships.

Lesson 2 Treat Projects with Respect
Walid understands that artists who bring their singles for him to turn into music videos and those looking for a photographer to capture their images are entrusting him with a portion of their careers. He'll listen to a song about one hundred times as he does research for a music video.

Lesson 3 Study the Best in Your Field

Walid worked with Madonna and observed as well as participated in the flow of ideas from those working with her. He was also influenced by photographer Herb Ritts in Chris Issack's video "Wicked Game."
